2020 and the growth of Brazilian e-commerce

Reading time: 2 minutes

There is no doubt that 2020 was the year of online commerce. The pandemic accelerated the digital transformation of many companies. Those that were already online intensified their digital activities even further. Those that were not saw the internet as a way to overcome the crisis that began in mid-March.
A survey released by ABComm (Brazilian Association of E-commerce) showed that Brazilian e-commerce revenue reached R$41.92 billion in August – a cumulative revenue since January 2020. Even though the average ticket decreased (from R$420.78 to R$398.03), the number of transactions grew by 65.7%.
Black Friday, held on November 26 and 27, also helped boost online sales in Brazil. This year, according to the Ebit | Nielsen consulting firm, it generated more than R$4 billion in e-commerce, representing a 25.1% growth compared to last year. The same survey points out that more than 6 million orders were placed, with an average ticket of R$652.8. On Friday alone, revenue reached R$3.1 billion – 24.7% more than in 2019.
This shows that e-commerce is already the present and a great investment for any business that intends to increase revenue in the long term. The convenience of selling, acquiring new customers, and cart recovery strategies make the sales process even smarter and more effective – something almost impossible to achieve in conventional commerce.
