We estimated that yes, and that is what happened…
…since the projections for 2019 are as positive as possible, according to data from ABComm (Brazilian E-commerce Association), estimating 16% growth, reaching a sales volume of R$ 79.9 billion in 2019, with average ticket growth of R$ 301 and still with 265 million orders placed by online consumers by the end of this year. Micro and small businesses should increase their share of revenue, reaching 29%. The share of marketplaces in the sector's revenue is also expected to grow in 2019. According to the entity, the share should go from the current 31% recorded in 2018 to 35% by the end of this year. As for sales made through smartphones and tablets, it will be 33%, with no changes in this result according to the 2018 analysis.
Thus, investment in platform improvements, adding features to their respective marketplaces, should grow among companies operating in national e-commerce, adjusting to the speed and convenience that consumers seek when buying a product.
Furthermore, retailers are seeking commercial agreements with national and international suppliers — some exclusive — in order to ensure consumer preference, who usually has certain brands as a preference, making it natural for them to search for stores that sell them.
It is important to highlight that last year's recorded growth is also the result of the entry of new players, mergers and acquisitions, and the consolidation of the marketplace model. Some of the main players in the retail market reported above-average growth and market share gains, but it is worth remembering that the long tail of e-commerce is indeed very long and the importance of the marketplace to consolidate the sales of small and medium players, providing support to the entire chain.
We are monitoring, we entered the second half of the year and the market heats up in a few days!
